Azul Divers is an owner-operated dive shop in Cozumel, Mexico that describes itself as a company "created by divers, for divers." The whole operation is built around one stated philosophy: "Small groups and diver's choice." Rather than running a shopfront and a fleet, Azul Divers runs a single boat and keeps numbers low enough that the divemaster can adapt each dive to what the people on board actually want to see.

The shop is explicit that it has no retail location: "We don't have a physical shop, our boat departs from Marina Fonatur. This is where we we will meet." Divers meet the crew at the ramp at Marina Fonatur, and the standard two-tank boat leaves at 8:00 am.

Owner and divemaster Andres runs the diving side. The boat, Tormenta, is captained by Jose, known on the island as "Capitan Cuxo," who the site credits with more than 30 years of experience.

Payment is by PayPal with a stated 6% service fee, and the site says "Balance of the payment is due upon arrival in Cash."

Why Azul Divers Stands Apart

Most Cozumel operators can say "small groups." Azul Divers puts a number on it in two places at once — eight divers is the ceiling for the whole boat, and six is the ceiling per divemaster. Combined with a 70-minute dive standard and a diver's-choice approach to site selection, that produces a very different day from a shop filling a 20-person boat on a fixed itinerary.

The second thing that stands out is that Azul Divers deliberately does not run a shop. What the shop sells is boat time on Tormenta with a small crew, and the meeting point is the marina ramp.
