Living Underwater Cozumel

Rated 5 out of 5(61)

One boat, the JewFish: a 33-foot canopied panga the shop describes as a fast boat, carrying no more than eight divers. Tanks are low-pressure steel 95s as standard, which is the detail experienced Cozumel divers care about — more gas and better trim than the aluminium 80s most operators hand out.

Overview

Living Underwater Cozumel

Living Underwater is a small, single-boat operation on the Costera Sur at Caleta, built around one idea: you dive, and they handle everything else. Gear is collected from your hotel, condo or villa when you arrive and stays with them for the week, rinsed and set up each morning. Divers who come back year after year tend to describe it as valet diving, and the crew is the reason — Captain Andre, sailor Ricardo and dive guide Pepe are named on the shop's own site and turn up by name in review after review.

Boat And Group Size

One boat, the JewFish: a 33-foot canopied panga the shop describes as a fast boat, carrying no more than eight divers. Tanks are low-pressure steel 95s as standard, which is the detail experienced Cozumel divers care about — more gas and better trim than the aluminium 80s most operators hand out.

A Typical Day

The shop suggests a 7:45–8:00 a.m. departure, and a two-tank trip runs about five and a half hours door to door, with the surface interval spent at a full-service beach club rather than bobbing offshore. Afternoon and night dives can be booked, though a minimum number of divers may be required. There is also a three-tank extended-range trip for the deeper southern sites.

Pick-up is from the pier at most accommodations south of town. Worth being precise about this: Living Underwater does not have a private pier of its own — they collect you from your building's dock, which saves the dawn taxi to the marina but is not the same thing as a shop-owned pier.

Training

PADI, from a first dive through to Divemaster. Course fees cover personal instruction, testing and PADI certification fees. Nitrox is available as a fill rather than as a course.

Prices

These are the rates published on the operator's own site and are quoted as inclusive of the 16% federal sales tax, with marine park fees and pier pick-up included. Card payments add 3%, and the shop notes that pricing is subject to change without notice — always confirm when you book.

TripPublished rate
Two-tank dive trip (morning, afternoon or night)MX$2,300 per person
One-tank night diveMX$1,500 per person
Three-tank extended range / advanced sitesMX$3,450 per person

Multi-day rates apply to groups of four or more, and drop per day as the week lengthens — four days at MX$8,750 per person through seven days at MX$14,175, with a night dive addable to any package. Rentals are priced separately: nitrox fills, BCD, regulator, computer, torch, mask and fins, and wetsuit.

A non-refundable deposit equal to one day's diving plus tax secures the booking, and once you are on the island a day needs twelve hours' notice to cancel.

Who It Suits

Divers who want the same small boat and the same crew all week, who value steel tanks and an early start, and who would rather not touch their gear between the first day and the last. Undercurrent's reader reports rate it strongest for advanced divers, slightly lower for beginners and for photography — worth knowing if you are certifying for the first time or carrying a rig.

Who Might Prefer A Different Shop

This is a dive operator, not a resort. There is no lodging, no accommodation package and no shore diving — you book your own place to stay and they come to its pier. The multi-day rates need a group of four. And with one boat and eight seats, availability in high season is genuinely limited, so book early rather than hoping to walk in.

Reputation

Rated 5.0 on TripAdvisor across a couple of hundred reviews and placed in the top twenty of Cozumel's boat tour and water sports operators, with reviews running through 2026. The recurring praise is consistent and specific: crew continuity, gear handled all week, small boat loads, big tanks, towels and hot drinks between dives. Critical reports are genuinely scarce.
