View DetailsCasa Denis has been operating since 1945 out of a small yellow wooden house on Calle 1 Sur, a few steps off the main square. It is the oldest restaurant on the island still in the same family, and it has resisted turning into a souvenir shop with a menu, which is more than can be said for some of its neighbours.
Cochinita pibil is the signature, along with tacos al pastor and fresh ceviche. The rest of the menu is straightforward Yucatecan and Mexican cooking with seafood running through it. Prices are moderate for a location this close to the plaza.
Open Monday through Saturday from 8:00am to 9:30pm, closed Sundays. The 8:00am opening makes it one of the few places right by the square where you can eat properly before an early boat. There are tables outside on the pedestrian street as well as inside, free Wi-Fi, and the terrace is pet friendly. Phone is +52 987 872 0067.
Calle 1 Sur 132, immediately off the Plaza Central. It is a two-minute walk from the ferry terminal and a short walk from the Punta Langosta pier, which makes it the easiest option on this list to reach on foot from the waterfront.
