Scuba Reef Divers Cozumel
Overview & Experience
Scuba Reef Divers is a small, owner-operated PADI dive shop based inside the old Marina Caleta on Cozumel's southern coastal highway. It is run by Pepe Canton — José E. Canton — a Cozumel native and PADI Scuba Instructor (#192558) with more than 20 years of divemastering experience on the island.
The shop's stated approach is small groups and long bottom times. Boat dives run tanks down to 700 PSI or 60 minutes rather than being called at a fixed schedule, and the crew are described as "professional, experienced bilingual certified padi Divemaster members on board". Diving is the classic Cozumel drift format along the leeward reef, departing from Marina Caleta at Km 6.5 — south of the main downtown piers and closer to the southern reefs, which shortens the boat ride to sites like Palancar, Colombia and Punta Sur.
Scuba Reef Divers publishes its full price list in both US dollars and Mexican pesos, and states what is included: "Taxes, marine park, captain, professional Divemaster bilingual, weights, dive tanks, fresh fruits, purified bottled water, fast shaded boat, small groups, long bottom times". The marine park fee being inside the quoted price is unusual on Cozumel and worth noting when comparing shops.

Why Scuba Reef Divers Cozumel Stands Apart
Three things. First, the location: Marina Caleta at Km 6.5 puts the boat closer to the southern reefs than the downtown piers do, which means less transit and more water time on Palancar-end sites. Second, the pricing model — quoted in both USD and MXN, with the marine park fee, taxes, weights, tanks, fruit and water already inside the number, so the price you read is close to the price you pay. Third, the owner. Pepe Canton is on the site by name with his instructor number, over 20 years of experience and a stated commitment to small groups and long bottom times.
The boat itself is described as a fast, shaded dive boat carrying an oxygen unit, VHF marine radio, ring buoy, life jackets and a first aid kit.
