Scuba Reef Divers is a small PADI operation working out of the old Marina Caleta at Km 6.5 on Cozumel's southern coastal highway, owned and run by island native Pepe Canton. Its real differentiator is the combination of where it launches from and what its price includes: the marine park fee, taxes, tanks, weights and a bilingual divemaster are all inside the published number, and the boat leaves from south of downtown, which cuts the run to the island's best-known southern reefs.

Most Cozumel dive boats depart from the downtown piers or the international pier area. From there, reaching Palancar, Colombia or Punta Sur is a real transit. Marina Caleta sits roughly 6.5 kilometres south of town, so the same sites are meaningfully closer. For a two-tank morning that difference is time in the water rather than time on a bench.

Why Choose Scuba Reef Divers

Scuba Reef Divers is not trying to be a large multi-boat operation. It is a single owner, a fast shaded boat and small groups, with a stated maximum of six divers per divemaster.

The owner is named and credentialed on the site. Pepe Canton — José E. Canton — is described as "owner and tour operator of Scuba Reef Divers Cozumel", a Cozumel native, PADI Scuba Instructor number 192558, with over 20 years of divemastering experience. On a shop this size, that means the person answering your email is very likely the person on the boat.

The second reason is the all-in pricing. Scuba Reef Divers lists exactly what a trip includes: "Taxes, marine park, captain, professional Divemaster bilingual, weights, dive tanks, fresh fruits, purified bottled water, fast shaded boat, small groups, long bottom times." Marine park fees are charged separately by most Cozumel operators, so a quoted price with the park fee already inside is not directly comparable to a cheaper-looking quote elsewhere.

The third is bottom time. The shop's stated practice is diving tanks down to 700 PSI or 60 minutes, rather than calling the dive on a fixed clock.

Diving Style and Experience

Diving with Scuba Reef Divers is standard Cozumel drift diving on the leeward reef, run from a fast shaded boat with safety equipment listed on the site: an oxygen unit, VHF marine radio, ring buoy, life jackets and a first aid kit.

Trips are guided by "professional, experienced bilingual certified padi Divemaster members on board", and the shop also runs semi-private and fully private charter formats for divers who want the boat to themselves or a specific site list.

Scuba Reef Divers is a PADI shop, and it publishes course prices in both currencies.

The Open Water course price is stated to include the digital eLearning manual, the PADI digital e-card certification, full dive gear for the course, a professional PADI instructor, the fast shaded dive boat, and taxes, weights, tanks, fruit and water.

Beginners who are not yet certified can start with Discover Scuba Diving by boat — one tank at $100 USD, or two tanks at $120 USD / $2,000 MXN.

Boats and Group Size

Scuba Reef Divers runs a fast, shaded dive boat. The shop does not publish the vessel's length or engine specification, but it does publish what is aboard: an oxygen unit, VHF marine radio, ring buoy, life jackets and a first aid kit.

Group size is stated as small, with a maximum of six divers per divemaster. Private charters are available if you want a guaranteed private group: $500 USD / $9,000 MXN covers one to four divers, with each additional diver at $50 USD. A private snorkel charter is $500 USD / $9,000 MXN for five hours and up to eight people.

Location and Getting There

Scuba Reef Divers is located inside the old Marina Caleta, on Carretera Costera Sur at Km 6.5, 77600 San Miguel de Cozumel, Quintana Roo, México. The shop is open 09:00 to 14:00 daily.

Because Marina Caleta is south of downtown, it is convenient for anyone staying in the southern hotel zone and a short taxi ride from San Miguel. Scuba Reef Divers offers hotel pickup for guests on the south side of the island.

The shop also runs a full valet service — gear rinsing, storage and setup — so multi-day divers can leave their kit at the marina rather than carrying it back and forth.

All rates below are as published by Scuba Reef Divers, in US dollars and Mexican pesos.

Multi-day packages: two days $167 USD, three days $245 USD, four days $320 USD, five days $390 USD.

Rental gear, per day per person: full set (BCD, regulator, mask, fins) $20 USD; individual items $5–7 USD; flashlight $10 USD; nitrox 80 cubic foot tank $10 USD; 100 cubic foot tank $5 USD.

Snorkelling: classic and mixed snorkel tours $50 USD per person, minimum six people.

Who It Suits Best

Divers staying in the southern hotel zone. Marina Caleta at Km 6.5 is closer than downtown, and hotel pickup is offered on the south side.

Divers who want the southern reefs. Palancar, Colombia and Punta Sur are all shorter runs from Caleta than from the town piers.

Divers who hate surprise charges. With the marine park fee, taxes, tanks and weights inside the quoted price, the comparison is honest.

Small-group divers. A stated cap of six divers per divemaster, on a shop with one owner-operator, is about as small as Cozumel gets.

Divers who want long dives. Tanks to 700 PSI or 60 minutes rather than a fixed turnaround.

Anyone booking in pesos. Every price is published in MXN as well as USD, which is rare and useful if you are paying locally.

Who Might Prefer a Different Shop

Divers who want technical, rebreather or sidemount training. Scuba Reef Divers publishes recreational PADI courses up to Divemaster. If you need decompression, trimix or CCR instruction, you will need a shop with a dedicated technical programme.

Divers who want detailed boat specifications up front. The site describes a fast shaded boat and lists its safety equipment, but does not publish the hull length, engine size or passenger capacity. If those numbers matter to you, ask before booking.

Divers who need a large fleet and a flexible daily schedule. This is a single-boat, single-owner operation. That is the point of it, but it means less schedule redundancy than a multi-boat shop if plans change at short notice.
