Dick''s Dive is exactly what the name promises: a small, scruffy, extremely popular bar on Avenida 5 a block from the main square, where the beer is cheap and the volume is high.
A single open-fronted room with a bar down one side, televisions for whatever game is on, and live music several nights a week. The food is straightforward Mexican and bar fare, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, and the prices are among the lowest of any bar in Centro. It is a late-night place more than a quiet-drink place — reviewers regularly mention how loud it gets — and it stays open until 2:00 most nights.
Open Monday to Saturday 9:00 to 2:00 and Sunday 11:00 to 1:00. Budget prices. Free Wi-Fi, outdoor seating, takeout and credit cards are all available. It is one block inland from the Malecón, a couple of minutes from the ferry pier, and an easy walk from most Centro dive shops and hotels — which is why it fills with divers as soon as the afternoon boats are back on the dock.
From the main square, head one block inland to Avenida 5 and turn left toward Calle 2 Norte. Dick''s Dive is at number 41, between Avenida Benito Juárez and Calle 2 Norte. From the southern hotel zone, take a taxi to the plaza and walk.
