Overview

The Thirsty Cougar sits directly on the Malecón, so you are drinking with the Caribbean in front of you and the cruise ships coming and going. It is one of the better-rated bars in town and busy on both cruise days and quiet evenings.

What To Expect

An open, ocean-facing bar with outdoor seating along the seafront. Specialty margaritas — the house Cougarita among them — are what most people come for, and there is live music in the evenings. The kitchen covers breakfast through late night, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, so it works equally as a morning coffee stop, a lunch break between dives and a place to end the night.

Good To Know

Open Sunday to Thursday 9:00 to midnight and Friday and Saturday 9:00 to 1:00. Mid-range prices. Free Wi-Fi, step-free access and major credit cards accepted. Being on Avenida Melgar means it is a two-minute walk from the ferry pier and within easy reach of every dive shop in Centro — handy if you are meeting a group straight off an afternoon boat.

Getting There

Walk along the waterfront avenue, Rafael E. Melgar, in downtown San Miguel; the bar faces the sea. From the ferry terminal it is a short stroll along the Malecón. From the southern hotel zone any taxi into town will drop you on Melgar.
