Sammy's runs sport fishing charters out of Marina Caleta, the small harbour on Cozumel's south-western shore that most of the island's fishing and dive boats work from. It is an owner-operated boat rather than a fleet, which is the usual trade-off on Cozumel: fewer departure slots, more continuity with the crew.
The island's offshore season shifts through the year — billfish, mahi-mahi, tuna and wahoo all have their months. Ask what has actually been landed recently rather than working from a species list.
Fishing happens outside the marine park boundaries. Caleta is on the sheltered side, so departures are usually calm, but the water past the drop-off is open sea. Bring sun cover — there is far less shade on a fishing boat than on a dive boat.
