Overview

Snorkel El Cielo Cozumel

El Cielo is the shallow sandbar off Cozumel's south-west corner — clear, waist-to-chest deep in places, known for starfish on a white sand bottom. It is inside the marine park and can only be reached by boat. This operator runs trips there from the Caleta side of the island.

What To Expect

  • Boat trip to the El Cielo sandbar
  • Usually combined with a reef snorkel stop and beach or beach-club time
  • Shallow, calm water — suitable for weak swimmers and children with a vest
  • Gear provided

Good To Know

El Cielo is a snorkel and swim stop, not a dive site — the appeal is the sandbar and the clarity, not reef structure. Marine park rules apply: no touching or standing on marine life, and the starfish stay in the water. Sunscreen should be reef-safe, and boats do not run when the crossing is rough.

If you want reef rather than sandbar, the mid-island sites are the better use of a morning.
