Hotel pick-up is offered along the route whenever possible.

The afternoon slot deserves attention. Most Cozumel shops run a single morning trip, which means an arrival day or a departure-eve day is usually a write-off. A published afternoon departure at 1:00pm turns half-days into dive days.

Blackwater diving is genuinely rare in Cozumel — a night dive in open water over deep bottom, watching vertically migrating pelagic larvae. It is a niche, advanced experience and very few operators on the island publish it at all.

Courses and Training

Mermaid Divers Cozumel teaches the PADI path at a maximum of two students per instructor, with all prices published in pesos including taxes and fees.

Course prices include an experienced PADI Instructor, full scuba gear (mask, BCD, regulator, fins, wetsuit), theory and exam where applicable, entrance fees and taxes, water and a light lunch on the boat, and the certification itself. The shop states there are no hidden costs.

Two structural details are worth flagging. The Open Water course covers three shore dives and two boat dives across three days — shore entries first, which is the gentler way to learn. The Advanced course is built from three shore adventure dives (Underwater Navigation, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Night) plus two boat dives (Deep, Drift), and has no final exam.

Boats and Group Size

Mermaid Divers Cozumel publishes ratios rather than boat specifications.

Boat type, capacity and the name of the vessel are not published. Neither is the marina used for departures. If those matter to you, ask on WhatsApp — the shop replies on the same number it publishes for phone.

For context on why the ratio matters more than the hull: Cozumel diving is drift diving, where the current does the work and the guide's job is keeping a group together along a wall. A guide with four divers can hold a loose formation and still stop for a splendid toadfish. A guide with twelve cannot.

Location and Getting There

What it does publish is hotel pick-up "along our route whenever possible," which suggests a route-based collection system rather than a fixed shopfront meeting point. In practice this means you should confirm your pick-up point and time when you book, and give the shop your hotel name.

If you want cenote day trips on the mainland, bull shark diving, technical or rebreather training, spearfishing or fishing charters, none of those appear in Mermaid Divers' published services.
