Budget runs an airport counter at Cozumel International, open every day from 8:00 to 19:00. It is a straightforward option if you are flying in and want to be driving within minutes of clearing arrivals, and the seven-day opening means a Sunday landing is not a problem, which is not true of every downtown agency.

Rates And What's Included

The headline daily rate covers the car and basic terms. Mexican third-party liability insurance is compulsory by law and is generally added at the counter rather than being bundled into a prepaid international rate, so budget for it as a real line item rather than an upsell.

Insurance And Deposit

Ask the agent to break out the mandatory liability policy, the optional collision damage waiver and the theft protection, and to state the deductible on each. A credit card pre-authorisation is held for the rental period. Walk around the car with the agent and get every existing mark noted on the sheet.

Good To Know

A standard sedan handles the whole island fine. You do not need four-wheel drive for the paved ring road or the cross-island highway, and unpaved tracks are off limits under most rental agreements anyway. Keep the rental paperwork in the car.
