Rentadora Isis is a small, long-established Cozumel agency on 5a Avenida Norte, a few blocks north of the main square. It rents cars, Jeeps and scooters, and unlike the airport desks it is open every day of the week, which suits visitors who arrive by ferry rather than by plane.

Rates And What's Included

Rates are quoted at the counter and vary by vehicle and season rather than being published as a fixed list. Ask what the daily figure includes, whether the price is for a calendar day or 24 hours, and what the fuel policy is before you sign anything.

Insurance And Deposit

Mexican third-party liability cover is legally required and is normally built into island rates. Ask whether collision cover is included or sold separately, what the deductible is, and how large the card hold will be. Photograph every panel of the car and the spare tyre before you drive off, and again at return.

Good To Know

Book a day or two ahead in high season and around cruise-heavy days, when the downtown fleets empty out early. Parking in the center is metered and tight, so if you are staying downtown, consider renting only for the days you actually plan to drive the island.
