Overview

Maple Bakehouse is a small bakery and café on Calle 6 Norte, a block in from the Malecón, run by bakers with decades of experience. The sourdough is the reason most people find it, and it has become one of the best-rated coffee stops in San Miguel.

What To Expect

Real sourdough loaves and sandwiches, pastries, café breakfast and lunch plates, and decent coffee. There is outdoor seating, table service and a takeaway counter, plus vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. It is a calm, low-key place — good for sitting with a coffee on a surface interval, and equally good for grabbing a loaf to take back to a condo.

Good To Know

Open 7:30 to 22:00 every day. The 7:30 opening works for a 8:30 boat if you keep it quick or order takeaway. Mid-range prices. Free Wi-Fi, free off-street parking, credit cards and digital payments accepted. It sits one block inland from Avenida Melgar in the north of Centro, an easy walk from the ferry pier and from hotels along the north waterfront.

Getting There

From Avenida Rafael E. Melgar, turn inland on Calle 6 Norte; the bakery is between Melgar and Avenida 5 Norte. Free parking on site makes it practical if you have a scooter or rental car.
