Hotel Barracuda

Hotel Barracuda is a plain, long-established oceanfront hotel on Avenida Rafael E. Melgar in central Cozumel. It is the kind of place divers book when the money should go on tanks rather than thread count: sea-facing rooms, a pool, and a location you can walk out of.

Diving From Here

There is no dive shop on the property and the hotel publishes no rinse tank or gear locker. What it does have is a downtown Melgar address, which puts the independent dive centers on Melgar and Calle Salas within a short flat walk, and the ferry terminal and fiscal pier a little further north. Operators that pick up from the downtown piers are the easiest fit; if your shop boards at Marina Fonatur, budget a short taxi south each morning.

Rooms And Facilities

Rooms face the Caribbean and have balconies with panoramic sea views. There is an outdoor pool. A large supermarket sits directly opposite, which is genuinely useful on a long dive trip for water, fruit and breakfast before the boat.

Good To Know

This is an older, no-frills building. Do not expect resort finishes, and be aware that a Melgar-facing room gets traffic and, on cruise days, foot traffic. Rates are not published on the hotel site — you have to run a date search.

Getting There

Cozumel International Airport is about a five-minute drive. The central square, the malecon and the ferry are all walkable.
