Overview

Coconuts sits on a rocky headland at Km 43.5 of the Carretera Costera Oriental, at one of the highest points on Cozumel. It is the classic east-coast stop: a huge palapa roof, hand-painted signs, cold beer, spicy Mexican food and a view down the whole windward shore. Most people arrive as part of a lap of the island by car, scooter or Jeep.

The Beach And Water

This is the open Caribbean, with nothing between here and Cuba. The sea below the restaurant breaks hard against rock, and there is no safe swimming access at Coconuts itself. Do not go into the water here. The east coast in general has strong surf and rip currents, no lifeguards and no phone signal in places, and people drown on this shore most years. Come for the view and the food, and swim on the west side of the island instead.

Day Pass And What's Included

There is no day pass. You buy food and drinks and use the tables and the terrace. Cash is the safe assumption on the east side, where card machines are unreliable and much of the coast runs on generators.

Good To Know

Open daily from 9:30 to 19:00. There is a steep set of steps up from the car park. Shade comes from the palapa rather than umbrellas on sand.

Getting There
