Overview

Señor Iguanas is a simple, cheap beach restaurant at Km 47 on the Carretera Costera Oriental, on the long empty run of Cozumel's windward shore. Regulars come for the sopa de lima and the fact that you can sit and watch the surf without another building in sight. It is one of the earlier stops if you drive the east coast from north to south.

The Beach And Water

Open Caribbean, fully exposed to the easterly trade winds. The waves here break directly on the beach and rip currents are a real hazard along this whole coast. Swimming is not recommended and there are no lifeguards anywhere on the east side. Paddle at the edge if the sea is calm, watch the water, and do your swimming on the sheltered west coast.

Day Pass And What's Included

No day pass and no entry fee. You buy food and drinks and use the tables and shade. Prices sit at the budget end. Carry cash, as card payment is unreliable along the east coast.

Good To Know

Open daily 9:00 to 17:00, which is early by island standards, so plan the east coast run as a morning-into-afternoon trip rather than an evening one. There is no fuel station anywhere on this coast, so fill the tank in town first.

Do they take cards?
Carry cash. Card payment along the east coast is unreliable.
What should I order?
The sopa de lima is what the place is known for.
What time does it close?
