Is it safe to swim at Chen Rio?

Generally yes, inside the rock-sheltered cove, which is the calmest water on Cozumel''s east coast. Outside the rocks the open Caribbean runs hard with strong currents, and there are no lifeguards, so stay in the protected pocket and check conditions first.

Can you snorkel here?

Yes, within the sheltered area. It is the only part of the east coast where snorkelling is realistic.

Is there an entry fee?

No. The beach is public and the restaurant is a normal pay-as-you-go operation.

Bring cash. Card payment along the east coast is unreliable.

Any tips on ordering?

Ask the price of the fish before ordering, as it is usually sold by weight and bills have surprised visitors.
