Overview

El Pescador is a marisquería and bar at Km 42.9 on the Carretera Costera Oriental, on the stretch of windward coast that most island tours drive straight past. It concentrates on seafood, has a generous spread of beach seating, and is a reliable lunch stop if you are doing the east coast on a rental car or scooter.

The Beach And Water

This is exposed open Caribbean. There is no reef offshore here to break the swell, so waves land directly on the beach and rip currents run along the shore. Swimming is not recommended in front of El Pescador and there are no lifeguards on this coast. If you want to swim on a Cozumel beach day, the sheltered west and south coast is where to do it. Here, take the view, the wind and the noise instead.

Day Pass And What's Included

No entry fee or day pass. You order food and drinks and use the beach seating. Cash is the safe assumption on this coast.

Good To Know

The kitchen runs long hours by east coast standards. Because the east side is unlit and has no fuel stations, plan to be heading back across the island before dark, and fill up in town before you set out.

Getting There

Carretera Costera Oriental Km 42.9, reached by crossing the island on the Transversal and turning south.

It is not recommended. This is exposed open Caribbean with no reef to break the swell, waves land directly on the beach and rip currents run along the shore. There are no lifeguards on the east coast.
Is there an entry fee?
No. It is a restaurant and bar, so you simply pay for what you order.

Where should I swim instead?
On the sheltered west and south coast, at places like Playa Palancar, Playa San Francisco or the Chankanaab inlet.
How far is it from town?
Around 35 to 40 minutes, crossing the island on the Transversal and turning south on the coast road.
