Overview

Mezcalitos sits at Punta Este, where the Carretera Transversal comes out of the jungle and hits the east coast, which makes it the first thing most people see of Cozumel's windward shore and the natural place to start or finish a loop of the island. Palapas, hammocks, a full menu and famously strong margaritas.

The Beach And Water

Open Caribbean, straight out to sea with no reef offshore. The surf here is constant and often heavy, and rip currents are a hazard along the whole of this coast. Swimming is not recommended at Mezcalitos and there are no lifeguards. Sit under a palapa, watch the swell and do your swimming on the sheltered west side of the island.

Day Pass And What's Included

No entry fee. You order food and drinks and use the palapas and hammocks. Bring cash, since much of this coast runs on generators and card machines are unreliable.

Good To Know

Open daily 10:00 to 18:00. It is the closest east coast bar to town if you come across on the Transversal, roughly 20 to 30 minutes from downtown. Sunrise here is spectacular if you are up early, since this is the side of the island that faces the dawn.

Getting There

Carretera Transversal Km 14.5, at the junction with the east coast road at Punta Este.
