The south and west side beach clubs are the ones with reef in front of them.
This is the sheltered coast, protected by the island itself, and the water here is usually calm enough to swim and snorkel from the sand. It is also where the developed clubs sit, which makes it the practical choice for a mixed group: someone snorkels, someone swims, someone stays under an umbrella and does neither. It is the same stretch of coast the dive boats work, so the water you swim in on a day off is the water you were diving that morning. What each club offers, and how it charges for a day there, varies enough to be worth reading on the listing rather than assuming. It is also the side most day trips are pointed at, which is worth knowing if you want a quiet stretch of sand.
